Fortune's Journey as a Greenkeeper at New South Wales Golf Club

Discover Fortune’s incredible journey from agriculture dreams to a thriving career as a greenkeeper at New South Wales Golf Club.

An Unexpected Start in the Golf Industry

Fortune’s first step onto a golf course was an eye-opener, and he could hardly believe he’d become a greenkeeper. Initially, he pictured himself working in agriculture after college, not on a manicured golf course. So when he landed an internship at a golf club, it was both an exciting and unexpected opportunity – one that would shape his future in ways he hadn’t anticipated.

PGA Tournaments and Career Growth

Entering the golf industry quickly opened doors for Fortune. Soon, he was offered a position at the renowned Congressional Country Club in the U.S., where he gained invaluable hands-on experience and was involved in preparing four PGA tournaments. Working alongside industry legends and maintaining pristine fairways, Fortune honed his skills and built connections that ultimately brought him to New South Wales Golf Club in 2015.

The Beauty of the Course

At New South Wales, Fortune has found his own “office with a view.” His favorite spot on the course is the 11th tee, where he can take in a sweeping panorama of the fairways and ocean beyond. The club’s signature sixth hole leaves visitors in awe, while the fifth hole, nestled high on a hill, offers views that Fortune calls “unforgettable.” For him, working amidst this breathtaking landscape feels like a dream job and a once-in-a-lifetime experience.

Looking Ahead

Looking to the future, Fortune hopes to become a golf course superintendent, potentially taking his expertise anywhere in the world. Yet, part of him is drawn back home, where he imagines sharing his skills and knowledge with others.

Fortune’s journey reminds us how dedication and seizing unexpected opportunities can lead to extraordinary places. From farms to fairways, his career has taken him across continents and granted him a fulfilling and “very fine life” – one he’s eager to continue growing.
