Royal Adelaide

Challenge yourself at Royal Adelaide Golf Club, consistently ranked among Australia’s finest courses. This historic gem offers a true links-style experience, promising an unforgettable round.

A Tradition of Excellence at Royal Adelaide

Founded in 1892, the existing location of the course officially opened in 1906. Royal Adelaide like many great courses in Australia built of this time, underwent modifications suggested by Dr. Alister MacKenzie in the early 20s and more recently by Michael Clayton.

As a visit to Royal Adelaide is interesting for not only the great golfing opportunity but because of the time change between Melbourne (one only loses 30 mins for an hour flight) and the fact that a train runs through the heart of the course itself (but doesn’t interfere with play).

With roughly 75% of this state’s population residing in the greater Adelaide area, it’s popular for basing those interested to explore not only great golf but the surrounding wine regions. Among these regions is the Barossa Valley- famous for its Shiraz variety (referred to Syrah in other parts of the world).

Immerse yourself in golfing royalty at the Royal Adelaide Golf Club, consistently hailed as South Australia’s premier course. Step onto fairways meticulously crafted by renowned designers, offering a true links-style challenge amidst a unique combination of sand dunes and fir trees. Royal Adelaide has hosted prestigious tournaments and offers an unforgettable golfing experience for those fortunate enough to play on its hallowed grounds.

Adelaide has a lot to offer in addition to wine. At the heart of the city is Victoria Square- a produce market dating back to the 1800s. The area is also accessible for families with easy access to surrounding wildlife Parks and Kangaroo Island.

Throughout its history Royal Adelaide has been redesigned and had input via several architects. Most notably are H.L. Rymill, C.L. Gardner, and the famed Dr. Alister MacKenzie.

With weather similar to that in Los Angeles, a mediterranean climate allows for golf on a year-round basis.

Signature Holes and Design:

Royal Adelaide Golf Club, a perennial Australian favorite, offers more than prestige. This historic course, influenced by Dr. Alister Mackenzie, caters to all skill levels. Multiple playing lines provide strategic options, rewarding both aggressive play and thoughtful shot selection.

Signature holes like the par-4 “Crater” (11th) with its dramatic elevation change and the water-guarded par-3 3rd, test every golfer’s mettle. Beyond these gems, the true challenge lies in the classic links-style design. Expect firm fairways, native rough, and strategically placed bunkers that demand precision throughout your round. The course’s unique setting, with towering firs contrasting the sand dunes, creates a visually stunning and unforgettable golfing experience.
