The Lakes

Sydney links course highlighted by large sandy spaces & a back nine which brings water into play.

Beauty & Challenge Collide: The Lakes Golf Course in Sydney

Located on the Sydney sandbelt The Lakes has hosted The Australian Open multiple times in recent years and is noted for being a course that will test even accomplished players. Established in 1928 the course is comprised of Kikuyu grass (fairways) and bent grass greens. Barren sandy wastes, water hazards and wiry fescue are prominent features on this modern links course.

When Sydney expanded in the late 1960s/early 1970s a major roadway essentially cut this course in two! It was redone at the time and then more recent modifications by Michael Clayton have brought it up to champtionship standards.

On the course are four proper par-5s and a back nine that borders a wetlands area- bringing water often into play. Green complexes are extremely challenging and require a little touch mixed with a lot of creativity.

A recently built modern clubhouse offers beautiful access to locker room and facilities, complete with spa and sauna. This is one of the best 19th holes as well- with a fine dining restaurant available for a meal and drink after play.
